curcumin

Almost everyone is getting conscious about their health. This is partly because of the surge of diseases and other medical conditions that are unexplained or untreated. Cancer has been one of the leading causes of death and this is attributed to food and lifestyle. People, nowadays, are clamoring for a cure on these freaks of nature. Curcumin might just be the cure.

What is curry powder?

Curry powder is an Indian spice mix that is usually composed of coriander, turmeric, cumin, fenugreek, and chili peppers. The mixture of spices and herbs forms a yellowish-kind of powder that is great in flavoring soups, sauces, rice and other recipes you can think of.

What is Curcumin?

Curcumin is a chemical produced by some plants that is used to flavor food, add to cosmetics and even as an herbal supplement. It comes abundant in curry powder.

Benefits of curcumin:

1. It reduces inflammation
The turmeric in your curry powder has a lot of curcumin, and this is found to be a great anti-inflammatory agent. It can treat bowel diseases, pancreatitis, and arthritis, which are all inflammatory disorders of the body.

2. It can prevent and treat cancer
Curcumin is highly recommended for cancer treatments and prevent remissions. Its ability to do this stems from its ability to prevent the spread or slow down the metastasis of cancer cells.

3. Can prevent the development of Alzheimer’s Disease
Alzheimer’s disease which is neurodegenerative disease is described as having progressive cognitive deterioration. The cause of these are beta-amyloid plaques, inflammation and oxidative damage. Curcumin comes into play by removing these amyloid plaques, reduce inflammation and inhibits the formation of free-radicals.

4. It aids in digestion
The black pepper in curry powder makes the body produce more stomach acid secretion to better digest the food and reduce intestinal gas. Some curry mixes have cinnamon in them too, and this spice is known to relieve diarrhea, vomiting and upset stomach. Coriander may treat your stomach ache, and other digestive disorders.

5. It controls blood sugar
Curcumin lowers your risk for diabetes. Among diabetic patients, the consumption of turmeric may prevent the blood sugar to rise and can also improve insulin-sensitivity. It is also found that curcumin mimics the effects of diabetes prescription drugs like rosiglitazone.

6. It helps detoxify the body
The coriander in curry powder may help rid your body of toxic heavy metals such lead and mercury out of the body. It can also remedy poisoning, and improve testosterone and low sperm count in males.

With the intervention of science, curcumin might be regulated for safe consumption by the public soon. Aside from curcumin, there are hundreds, maybe thousands of undiscovered plant species that may bring a cure for just about any disease we have. If only pharmaceutical companies prioritize research for natural cures instead of the artificial ones. After all, nature is given to us to explore and discover. And there is possibly a cure hidden somewhere in the Amazon or in the Great Euphrates, who knows?
