Aescin-Horse Chestnut Extract Introduction

Aescin is a complicated mix of more than 30 different triterpene saponin glycosides. These are absorbed poorly by the body, and aescin has an oral bioavailability of less than 1% of the intravenous dosage.The extract of the seeds of the horse chestnut tree has been found to have a similar effect to compression stockings. The horse chestnut tree is native to Asia and northern Greece, but it is now cultivated in many areas of Europe and North America. The tree is also commonly known as horse-chestnut or conker tree. It tones and protects blood vessels and may be helpful in ankle oedema related to poor venous return. The tree produces fruits that are made up of a spiny capsule containing one to three large seeds, known as horse chestnuts.
